Council Leader Georgia Gould appointed Councillor James Slater as Cabinet Adviser for the year to take a deep dive into improving services for Camden leaseholders and advocating for leaseholders . For several months James researched the problems leaseholders face. He met the CLF chair and vice-chair and joined two CLF meetings. Aiming for the widest possible input, James ran three “Listening to Leaseholders” sessions, to which everyone on CLF’s email list was invited (that’s why it’s worth signing up for email news updates – see tab above). James listened to the specific concerns of leaseholders in street properties and reviewed emails direct from leaseholders. The process was thorough and transparent.
Cllr Slater presented his report (link below) to Camden’s Housing Scrutiny Committee on 22 February.
Cllr Slater Cabinet Advisor Report on Improving Services to Camden Leaseholders and Advocating for Leaseholders
CLF made a deputation to the Housing Scrutiny Committee meeting, in support of Cllr Slater’s report recommendations. The CLF deputation paper is on this link .
Immediately following Cllr Slater’s presentation, Cllr Meric Apak (Cabinet Member for Better Homes) responded:
“In time I am going to respond fully to the report formally but my preliminary response/feedback is that I fully welcome all the recommendations and I fully commend Cllr Slater for the work he has done. To say that he has been thorough is an understatement. I look forward to working with him and officers and this committee and whoever is willing to participate to actually work through those recommendations”.
The meeting noted the report and endorsed the recommendations”.
The report and recommendations will be considered by the Council’s Cabinet.
The next quarterly meeting of the Forum Representatives will be at 7pm on Tuesday 19 March 2024. It will be a hybrid meeting and leaseholders subscribed to our mailing list will be sent an invitation to observe the meeting online.
