I would like to create a roof terrace on my street property. It would involve buying the roof from the council. So far it seems as though I need planning permission, permission from leaseholder services, Permission from the district housing office and building control. Would anyone have experience of this and know the pitfalls? I’m not even sure which permission to go for first.

You have to start by emailing your housing officer as the Council have to agree in principle that they would be willing to sell. Then you need planning. Then building regs. And you also have to agree the price. I did ot for a loft. It took about a year to sort out the paperwork.

Thanks. Did you need to submit drawings when you asked if they would be willing to sell the roof? And who did you ask? Was it leaseholder services or the district housing office?
