Resources which we think will be of benefit to leaseholders and freeholders living in Camden Council properties including a discussion board and guides.
Lord knows we all want maximum fire protection but …. leaseholders in our terrace of 4 flats have just received eye-wateringly high bills from the Council for ill thought out works in this area. They’re going ahead AND requesting advanced payment, without giving proper consideration to cheaper and more appropriate alternatives. Anyone else in this situation?
We had the same thing 18 months ago. Basically Camden spent about £20k on some ladders you could have bought from B&Q plus changed the light fittings… I think the theory they go by, its not their money so just get an overpriced quote and go for it!
Major Works are making a mess of things at various places recently, but all one can do is get alternative quotes and then pursue them at the LVT if necessary (explained in much better detail in the above document). There are recent cases where Major Works have backed down if the “opposition” is well organised and forceful enough in their opinion!
Thanks very much for comments. See there is a letter on this very subject in today’s Camden New Journal from an NW5 leaseholder. I suspect many others are struggling to make sense of these charges.
