      Hi all,
I need to replace the tap in my bath tub as faulty and being a leaseholder the council told me I need to get that done privately. I had 2 different plumbers over and none of them has been able to find where to with the water supply off.
I have called the Council and Apollo to see if they can give me any information at all of where to find the pipes/valves and I was told that I would not be able to do it from my flat.
I would instead have to ask the council to switch off the water supply from the all block and pay for this as well.
Can this be true? I have found the valves/pipes for the sink in the kitchen and the bathroom I really can’t believe there is no way to switch the water coffin the bath.
      Can anybody help?
      Thank you

Oh dear! I am casting my mind back to when I had the kitchen installed and I think you have a point. Maybe you can ask one of the plumbers if they can freeze the main inlet pipe using a freezing kit which I think most of them will either have or know about. Then, with the supply to the flat frozen they can cut the pipe and install a stop-cock for you {for turning off the supply more easily in the future}. With the in place they can then get your tap replaced. Other than the suggestion you’ve already made of stopping the supply to the block I think this should work hopefully.

The plumber did mention freezing the pipes but with the hot water it might be tricky. I still can’t believe there is no way to switch the water off from each one of the flats. With all the kitchens and bathrooms replaced by Camden Council for this Better Home scheme I can’t believe the council has to freeze the pipes every time or switch the water off from the all building.
          There must be another way.

True. You would think so. Quite astonishing that an organisation like Camden Council doesn’t know how to switch off it’s own water supplies. As you say with kitchens being fitted left right and centre that’s one of the first things you’d need to know how to do. Either this or there is a original design flaw in the water supplies to the flats. Important things like this should really be documented for each block in Camden.

My Stop cock was on the pipe going up the wall at the back of the bath but I had to get a plumber to freeze my pipes in the toilet which is in a separate room when I was replacing it as there was not stop cock there. You could try turning the tap on the central heating boiler which should stop the hot water and then run the tap in bathroom and see if that works. Think your cheapest option is to ask the plumber before he comes round if he can freeze the pipes as not all of them have the right equipment to do it.
