Hi Peter, sorry did not spot this reply.
Not aware of any tenant / leaseholder association for the estate. And as for contact with Camden, reams and reams of documents about tenders etc but only one letter confirming the start of the work. I have had to ask Camden each time for an update on each time the completion date passes. Estimated invoices total £19k for this work!!!!
Have you spoken to your local councillor? If you are having trouble getting hold of someone who will listen and help then its their job at the end of the day to support residents.
I’ve posted about excessive service charges about Camden before. I have a flat with NO LIFT, NO COMMUNAL WATER FACILITIES, NO HEATING INC – just a standard hall way and I pay £1,500 a year. I think Camden Council is badly run by people who do not value the contribution that leasehold residents make in the area.
In a 5 year period the charge they make for managing ‘Management Charge’ has increased from £71 to £228.72 per flat. THATS A MSSIVE 318% INCREASE!! This is totally ripping off residents, how can it cost £228.72 to collect and send my invoice for the service charge!!
There is something seriously wrong here and I THINK IT NEEDS PROPER MEDIA ATTENTION
Totally agree with your response. I had to pay towards fixing a communal door last year… one from the block next door which you can not gain access to my property from but ‘becuase its on the estate’ we all had to pay.
It seems to me that no one holds Camden Council to account. They keep saying about the need to save money and the pressure they have due to budget cuts but then agree to spend huge sums on expensive contractors that do sub standard work. They could save the tax payer a lot of money for the social housing and for those in leashold, if they cared to get better quotes.
We had the same thing 18 months ago. Basically Camden spent about £20k on some ladders you could have bought from B&Q plus changed the light fittings… I think the theory they go by, its not their money so just get an overpriced quote and go for it!
I think this is just a generic heading and if you were going to have more than one you would have received it in the same envelope. I had two, ‘Demand Part 1’ which is my usual Service Charge and ‘Demand Part 2’ which is for Better Homes Work.
